J. K. College being the premier institution of the district in the field of higher education, it behoves us to become the beacon light of learning in the district, and constantly create and protect the ambience of search for truth and knowledge. The mission of the College is 'Pursuit of Knowledge', both theoretical and applied, technical and spiritual, both within and outside the institution. The College received COLLEGE WITH POTENTIAL FOR EXCELLENCE (CPE) status from UGC. The College is affiliated to the Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, Purulia. At present the college is offering 19 Undergraduate programmes, Post-Graduate programme in Mathematics.
Principal's Desk
I have the proud privilege to share my views on Jagannath Kishore College, with whom I have been associated for the last twenty-five years initially as a faculty of Physics, and then as the Principal for the last seven years or so. Founded in 1948, and serving as a premiere institution for higher education in Purulia for over seven decades, this college has followed the motto ‘Shraddhavan Lavate Jnanam’( a faithful person achieves knowledge) to its optimum. In Swami Vivekananda’s words ‘Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man’ – this college always strives to fulfil this objective whole-heartedly. The striking feature of this institution is the bonding between the teachers and the students, which has set it apart from its peers. Again to quote Swamiji, “The only true teacher is he who can immediately come down to the level of the student and transfer his soul to the student’s soul and see through the student’s eyes and hear through his ears and understand through his mind. Such a teacher can really teach and none else.” Our teachers have proved it a reality. In the present times of turmoil, our educators are relentlessly trying to create a harmonious atmosphere, irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Our vision has been to create a generation instilled with moral values and social responsibilities.
