Vivekananda Central Library(Vivekananda KendriyaGranthagar) of the Jagannath Kishore
College(j.K.C.), Purulia is the nerve centre for all academic activities of the Institute.It is located
at ground floor of the building, spreading over 7680 sq feet.Our college library contains a rich
collection of 55,365 books (Text Books and Reference) and E-resources:N-LIST (National
Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) consortium of
INFLIBNET. The library subscribes 42 (print) journals and 12 newspapers. It remains open from
7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. There are separate reading room for faculty and students. Natural light and
air is an added advantage of this reading hall. The sitting capacity of the reading room of the
library is for 80 students.
The library security surveillance system is equipped with modern CCTV cameras and has 80
Liters. storage water cooler. The Library is using Library management software (LMS) for its
on-going automation activities and provides OPEN ACCESS facilities and users can also search
their required resources through Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).

I have the proud privilege to share my views on Jagannath Kishore College, with whom I have been associated for the last twenty-five years initially as a faculty of Physics, and then as the Principal for the last seven years or so. Founded in 1948, and serving as a premiere institution for higher education in Purulia for over seven decades, this college has followed the motto ‘Shraddhavan Lavate Jnanam’( a faithful person achieves knowledge) to its optimum.
