Department Of Mathematics
With outstanding performance at the University level examinations for years together, the department at present runs with Honours and P. G. courses in Mathematics and has a student strength 280 approximately. Our department has its own performance among all other departments in the college. With Honours course introduced in 1967-1968 and P. G. course in 2002-2003, the department boasts of a number of toppers in its field. The department has a well-equipped Computer Laboratory with networking facilities for the students. A large number of computers are connected through college broadband internet connection for the students and teachers. The department organized one day seminar on Mathematics to celebrate 126th birthday of Mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan on 22nd December 2012, the day declared as the National Day of Mathematics by Govt. of India. The department also organized a special seminar on Mathematics on 16th January 2013 to promote and popularise the study of mathematics. In this Seminar, the main speaker was Prof. Octavio Paulo Vera Villagrán, Universidad del Bío-Bío, Conceptión, Chile. The purpose of the seminars are to bring together the Scientists, Mathematicians, and Research scholars along with the U. G. & P. G. students of this department in a common platform and for interactions. Thus the department intends to promote higher studies and academic excellence build a sense of confidence and an opening up of better opportunities both for teacher and the taught.
The Department holds Terminal Examinations, Test Examination, Mock Test for every year for all Students of the Department. After each examination marks are displayed on the notice board, and scripts are shown to the students. Guardian-teacher meetings are held for those students who have not been able to qualify a certain percentage of marks and attendance. Extra classes are always held after the Test examination in those papers which have not been able to complete the syllabuses time.
We believe that completing the syllabus is not enough; completing the syllabus properly is our aim.
Also, we use to motivate our students about the scope of higher studies in Mathematics at different Universities and Institutes. Regarding innovative teaching skills we use LCD projector in our classes. Also our PG students use the projector to present their seminar at the time of their dissertation. In the outreach program of PG students, they taught the neighboring village students in the primary section.
